Assessing and managing security risk in IT systems: A structured methodology
The book report for this class will be on the McCumber textbook.
The book selection will primarily reflect an aspect of the information technology discipline. Students are expected to complete the book by the eighth session of the class or third week whichever comes first. The professor will discuss and use the book selection for examples throughout the course. As such the essay is only part of the assessment and oral assessment will continue through the entirety of the course. The book report should reflect in narrative the following elements:
1. What is the topic and theme?
2. What is the research question or what is author trying to answer?
3. What is the supporting data or how did the author answer their question? What was the chosen research methodology?
4. What errors or omissions are apparent?
5. Does the author have a particular bias?
6. Students must take a stance on whether they agree or not with the conclusions.
Some reasons for deductions of points can include not finishing the assignment, poorly written materials, inappropriate content within the assignment, grammar, or other indicators of poor scholarship. The assignment is meant to be reflective and perfunctory or incomplete essays will result in a substantial deduction in points. If during discussions or other assignments the professor detects that the student has not read the materials or cannot reflect on examples pulled from the book selection the student may have their grade retroactively decreased.
